To recognize and react to any threat of genetic erosion of plant species
or populations, accurate, timely and relevant information is needed.
Ecogeographic studies can provide invaluable information in assessing
the threat of genetic erosion. Ecogeographic information can be used for the
identification of conservation priorities and the development of
conservation strategies. Importantly, it is essential for planning collecting missions.
